East central Iowa, Camanche, Iowa
A good way of tying up your excessive Mg is put gypsum on. The sulfur in the gypsum ties up some of your Mg making K more available. The Ca in the gypsum help to get you Ca ratio up plus other benefits. Gypsum also helps the soil particals floculate (get bigger) allowing better water & air infiltration. This works especially well in notil situations.
