Deer will eat the ear and leave the stalk standing, unless they have a spot where they are laying. THose are usually small.

Racoon will flatten it by the acre.

You can have luck frustrating raccoons by planting hybrids with very high ear placement and high stalk and root quality, but it only improves things a little bit, I am sorry to say. Lots of experience experimenting in this area.
