Subject: Re: corn storing ?

20% has been my cutoff in air dried bins in the poast with 18% preferred. This year, because of lack of drier space & long lines at the elevator we put some 21-22% corn in a couple air dried bins 2-3 weeks. One bin was a 7,500 bu bin with a 7 1/2 hp vane axial fan & the other was a 11,000 bu bin with a 10 hp vane axial fan.

Needless to say I was more than a little nervous putting that wet of corn in them but I have been keeping a close eye on them. I was in the 7,500 bu bin today & the corn has dropped 8-10" & has good air flow at the top. Walking around in it I was sinking in past my boot tops. Didn't have the moisture tester with me but I would say the corn was around 19% or so on top so it is slowly drying as about a week ago I would hardly sink in.

We have had 3 1/4" of rain since Sunday here but I never shut the fans down.
