Devils Lake, ND | Farm Industry News did a study about 10 years ago, putting a two-track machine, a 4wd, and a Quad Track against eachother. This was in a situation where traction was not an issue. The 4wd was the most efficient, followed by the two-track machine, then the Quad Track. So the answer to you question would be that an equally-powered 4wd would do best.
In "compromised tractions" situations, tracks do better. I would lean towards the Quad Track, because weight transfer is less on an issue. Quad Tracks are heavier, also, I think. The question, then is where do you transition from good traction to bad traction. I have no idea on that. | |
