My "good" 856 has 12000 hours and who knows how many more the other one has. I've replaced some of the pins that are easly replaced to take some of the slack out of the linkage. One of them was doing like you described until we put a new clutch in and that seemed to cure it. Also if you can get by without the TA my 856 with the loader on it shifts a lot easier since we took the TA out of it.
