North Central Kansas
We have a neighbor did about the same.
Kid helped dad with cow farm.
By the time he graduated HS he had 30 cows!
thats a heck of a start to real life.
He inheirted (sp) his grandpas old farmstead, fixed it up, and moved there to live.
Young man has a bright future.

I always said...If I get dumb enough to get back into the cattle industry it will be for the kids. 1 bull, 4 cows. Each year sell the calves, money goes to kids and wife (3 kids, 1 wife) every 3rd or 4th year I keep the money. This covers vet fees, feed bill etc.

I like having the freedom of getting up and being able to take off and go someplace. I do not have to worry about feeding anything, breaking ice, helping pull nothing!
But if I do... I have 60 acres of grass with good water, and a good spot here at home to put them. I have kept 2 pens that have access to a shed with a roof.
