Subject: Hard Red Spring Wheat

I am located in North Central, OK, and have a friend asking me about raising hard red spring wheat.. The normal crop here is hard red winter wheat, and he doesn't want to rotate away from wheat to break weed cycles (equipment reasons?). Was thinking that a winter fallow system would help him kill what weeds are out there, and break that cycle, and maybe a spring wheat would fill the void of a summer crop. We recieve around 30 inches of annual rainfall, of which much of that comes in March, April, and May. Was thinking of planting maybe in Feb.? What do the soil temps need to be for spring wheat planting, and can a late freeze be okay on the crop. Also, we tend to get some hot days in early June. Basically, I need info on a variety that might move down here. Any suggestions???
