-- Not necessarily.  Depends on lots of things, such as type of clays and chemistry of those clays, etc. And the pH of the subsoil.  And whether the crop/variety has trouble at a certain level of acidity.

Further note that liming can induce all sorts of nutrient deficiencies, such as Mn, Cu, Zn, B, etc.  Do not go into liming blindly assuming that it is automatically a net benefit.
