NE Ohio | Cattle typically do not like to go from lighted areas into darker ones, particularly if they are in a stressed situation like being run through a corral. For years we tried different setups in low ceiling barns that are fairly dark like you pictured, even starting from the inside and directing the runway & chute towards the door they are used to exiting. Ultimately we found it best to do everything outside where the cattle are more relaxed. It does require more planning around the weather conditions, but that is a reasonable trade-off for us in northern Ohio. If we had a large open pole barn with lots of natural lighting we might approach it differently.
You are making a great choice with the Arrowquip chute. Beyond that it is hard to give you more advice without knowing details like how many and what type of cattle (cows, calves, stockers, etc.) you are handling, how often, number of handlers, etc. | |
