Nope, it's not reeds canary grass. We have some of that and can tolerate it in the 'right' places (wet/spongy areas). Reeds can be very good winter bedding out in calving pastures if it doesn't have seed in it, and if baled 'right', cattle will at least pick through it and eat a little bit of it. This 'slough' grass is some tough chit. I think it would last 2 or more years in a thatched roof setting even here in this midwestern climate. The old loose hay stacks were all covered with this to 'shed' water and it worked very well, but thats all it's good for. I don't think anything will eat it, not even goats. It's usefulness is long gone with the passing of the loose hay stack days. |
