Is it reed canary grass? Reguardless of the type of grass, I'd be round-up'ing it. As you discribe, it's agressive roots are moving out to the field now, so disking or digging would add more "root graphs" to sprout and grow . . . I'm thinking glypho in heavy doseage to kill (maybe a couple yrs) then plant . . .
