Central Coast, California | It's an odd thing but one place I worked for they culled every 4 years old cow one year after the majority of the calves seriously underperformed.
They were all ranch raised replacements. They were given the benefit of the doubt when their first calves didn't do well but after the second calves were puny they went on a truck right after the calves.
These guys used great genetics. We just figured the bull that had sired all the pretty heifers had a bad milk gene...
