SE Iowa
We currently still run a small flock of sheep and cows, and sheep are a young mans game for sure. We shear them all ourselves, and let me tell you, it’s the most hated job we do on the farm by far. That and they are just naturally a dumber animal, always getting head stuck in the fence and will willingly sit there till they die if you don’t find them. Also need better fences, a 5 barb tight fence is minimum for adult ewes, you need netting if your running lambs. Dad got started in sheep at 16 years old and he’s currently in his 50’s now. They have been good to him for a long time, but he’s just getting tired of it and has grandkids on the brain more and more LOL. In less than 5 years I’d say the sheep will be gone and we’ll just build the cow herd up a little more to replace them.
