Subject: RE: Why do some fields blow?

Soil type plays a large factor as does topography (the way the ground lays vs the wind), amount of ground cover (residue) and soil structure.

Year after year its always the same fields that are most likely to blow.    Some of it is completely out of the farmers control but there are certainly things to do or not do that can make a big difference.

I was actually surprised yesterday at how well most fields were staying put.     If we get a wind like that 2-3 weeks from now when everything has been freshly worked it will blow much worse.
