You can read for the rest of your life about ‘theodicy’ and ‘election’.  Lots of minor church/congregational schisms over those subjects.

ETA: Western culture based on Greek rationality seems to struggle with the ‘mystery’ that is more readily accepted in the Hebrew historical culture, the Eastern churches, and various Middle Eastern and Eastern cultures.  Witness the numerous ‘science’ attacks on the Bible when the scientific method had barely even been formalized at the time of its writing, while the Bible displays sophisticated literary devices that had been practiced for over a thousand years at that time.  I think we really struggle to understand the culture and beliefs of the time of writing and routinely judge the Bible by more or less current secular scientific Western norms, as few of us read Koine Greek or Hebrew or are anthropological and cultural historians.  I sure am not.
