That is correct, equities like gamestock have a finite and definable “float”. That is not the case with commodity futures.


With equities, there is no limit either. Every time a short sale occurs a synthetic share gets created and now there is float plus one more shares on the market. Then that same synthetic share (someone bought from the borrower) can be loaned out to be shorted again creating float plus two. Etc Etc... No limit to shares traded based on float...
