SWMO | I see this a lot on windrowed fescue for seed when it lays for several weeks. Obvious thing is moisture conservation under row and shading from hot sun. One line of thought would be nutrient leaching of windrow into ground. I have always heard that rained on hay has less nutrients.
Another explaination is that when you lay a object on grass for a period of time, there is a spurt of growth trying to get up and around to the sun. | |
