Subject: I can't believe you plowed out good bermudagrass!

Little River, TX
coastal type bermuda three times and still had to use LL corn the following year for some stragglers.
It is not difficult to kill coastal bermudagrass, the kind that has to be sprigged not seeded. Five qts of RU, with a little fertilizer and some Crop Oil.
If you have one or more seed type bermudagrass the seeds will continue to germinate for a good while. Common is our problem child here.

Bermudagrass makes lots of good hay for a grass hay. It is mostly leaves is one reason. You are correct it is not like mowing alfalfa. You must have knives that are sharp. Even then you will have to mow at a slower speed than for alfalfa. I mow alfalfa at 11 mph but coastal at 4.5 to 7 mph.

It makes lots of hay as long as you apply 40 lbs of Nitrogen/Ton of hay. It also uses plenty of potash and phosphate but about a half of the calcium that alfalfa will. It will gross better than $1,000/A which is better than corn will do HERE.
