| I grew it as a cover crop back when we had "set-a-side acres back in the '70s & early '80s Grew fast, I usually mowed it a couple times a year to keep it in check then plowed it under in the fall. At the time a lot of guys were using oats as a cover crop but I thought the sweet clover helped the soil more. If I knew I was going to put a field in "set-a-side" for 2-3 years then I prefered alfalfa or red clover.
I did see see some volunteer sweet clover the next year but was using atrazine in corn & that took care of it. Once in awhile I will still see a few plants of sweet clover in a former "set-a-side" field. Not sure how long the seed will last in the ground but it must be several years. | |
