Yes I did drill holes through my rim. My weighted rim is on the inner tire, not the outer tire. The Deere steel rims that are drilled for weights have a flat face about 1/3 of the way up from the center. Neighbor has them on an 8870. The way I did it the weight is not pulling sideways on the rim as one is inside and one is outside and they are bolted through the rim. If anyone thinks I would complain and bad mouth the manufacture if I have a problem, my answer is it is a 19 yr old tractor for crying out loud, it don't stay new forever. If it breaks I have a welder and a framed piece of paper on the wall from the certification board that says I know how to weld, or I buy a new rim. And there are a few running around this country that the weights are done similar to mine as Michelin does not recommend fluid nor does Deere really like it.And the hub mounted weight are no longer available. I wouldn't be scared to do it again on a different tractor.
