When we got down to 12 or so a couple years ago, I know of several pickups that wouldn’t start/run on #2. They fired up just fine when it warmed up.

How long were they sitting at 12°? If they'd been sitting for several days, probably the reason. If they were running the day before, shouldn't be an issue.

Also, these guys with problems. How old were the filters, and had any of them ever opened the water drain on the primary? A lot, and I mean a LOT of these issues are self-inflicted. My work truck, '12 F550 sits outside. I have dual tanks, #1 in the front, #2 in the rear. Parked on Thursday night with it on the front tank, it was -2° Friday morning. Drove to jobsite, shut it off for another 4 hours. Finished up, needed to run to town about 45 min away. After I got on the highway and it was good and warm, I hit the switch for the rear tank. No issues.

The whole cold spell didn’t last 3-4 days. And by cold spell, I mean below freezing.
