Subject: Blowby in 4620 tractor vs. good starting

Fontanelle, IA
this maybe somewhat of a duplication to Shorty1's question on excessive blowby in tractors from maybe 2-3 weeks ago.

specifically, with a 1972 JD 4620 with excessive blowby (oil drops coming from breather pipe), can it have excessive blowby YET start really, really well? I always thought that 4620's were kind of cold blooded; however, this tractor only being plugged in for 1.5 hrs (block heater vs. external tank heater kind) cracks right off. Is there something simple/less costly to "correct" that might cause the bad blowby vs. having to do a "major correction" via overhaul?

I really wanted to try to do some tillage with the tractor to work it and seat the rings better; however, I don't want to blow the motor up and have to overhaul it when a less costly fix would have cured the problem. Just surveying starting point thoughts of others as to where to start or worry.

Thank you again for any advice!
