Here we close them. I only have bubble wrap above the joists and under the 1 1/8" subfloor. I have 2" rigid insulation on inside of block stem walls and thick plastic on the ground with 2" pea gravel on top to hold in place. I store winter produce in there. Never freezes. We heat with a wood cook stove, floors never feel cold. Small cabin....James
