The pumpkins do not appear to have been painted. None of the stems have any orange on them. Also, I thoroughly washed the diamond pattern pumpkin with dish soap and then dried it with a paper towel. There was no immediate color change and no orange on the paper towel. It does look cleaner though!
Several of the pumpkins are continuing to gradually turn green, but I have not found any squishy spots on them yet.
Thanks for the info on pumpkin plants catching a virus. Very interesting. I did some research on sick pumpkins, but didn't find any articles specifically stating that it could cause orange pumpkins to turn green after harvest.
Thanks again, I am going to continue to keep an eye on my color-changing pumpkins!
