| Well said. There are manipulating charlatans on both sides and we are being told that the only way to prevent people from being mislead is to have a governing body making sure that we only hear the “truth”. In a perfect world that makes perfect sense. Unfortunately we live in a world where the governing bodies have not always been on the correct side of science, just like your flat Earth example. If we allow a group of fallible “experts” to make sure we only hear what they believe is the truth we might in fact be prevented from hearing the real truth. The possibility also exists that these experts themselves could turn out to be the very charlatans we want protection from. It might be a case of the fox guarding the henhouse.
I don’t want anyone deciding what I can and can not hear. I won’t always be able to discern the truth and sometimes I will believe something that is wrong. In the end though, I believe that is far better than having to follow a path created by charlatans. | |
