Thank you all for your thoughts, it gives me a few ideas to chew on. As a happy coincidence our local field days are happening in a couple of weeks so I'll have a chance to talk with AgLeader specialists.
I hadn't come across Fieldview until now; I'll have a closer look to see if it will give me the conversions I need.
