i had the same problem on a X310 with 42" deck, go through 2 to 3 belts a year at close to $60 each.
looked at a few YouTube videos and came to the conclusion that when you put the deck in gear it flexed the belt and caught on a bolt on the right side that was part of the deck leveling system. i replaced spindles, bearings, pulleys and check alignments to no avail.
heres a link yo a youtube video that explains it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A8RX28EdAk
i eventually bought a new 48" deck for it that was basically what you would call
"plug and play", came with everything needed to mount it and took just 15 minutes to switch the decks.
48" is a 3 blade deck vs. the 2 blade 42"deck. never did like a 2 blade deck, the 3 blade does a much better job of cutting level.
