If it is bad for nitrates in drinking water why are they being used for high blood pressure. Does the purple pill increase nitrate levels to reduce blood pressure?

Nitrate is NO3-. Nitric Oxide is NO. They work very differently in the body.

Nitrates will bind with hemoglobin in red blood cells and prevent them from carrying oxygen. Nitric Oxide functions as a signaling molecule, among a variety of other things
