Sioux County, NWIA | It is sad that the Ukrainian people have to go through this. Even more sad that US meddling apparently is one of the main reasons it is happening. For decades (since the USSR fell apart) the US and other NATO leaders have eyed the possibility of Ukraine being part of NATO and have made progress toward that, especially after the Ukrainian coup in 2014 when the Russian leaning UA government was replaced with a western leaning government. Putin has said many times that Ukraine as a NATO member is unacceptable and he will do what it takes to prevent it. Then Biden becomes President who has always been hawkish toward Russia. Now we have a mess that will be difficult to deescalate thanks to NATO saber rattling and Russian paranoia. | |
