Subject: RE: Chem Fallow And Tillage Cost Question

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
We're going to try cover crops on some burned off acres.
Otherwise, earlier, up until this week, it was too dry to get a cover crop up. Plus, our limiting factor is moisture. It seems contradictory to grow a cover crop that uses moisture that takes away moisture from the cash crop. Some have tried it here with limited success.
For wheat, a CC has to be terminated by June 1 in order for the wheat to be considered summer fallow wheat. Otherwise, the wheat is considered continuous wheat and our APH's are half for continuous so our revenue guarantees are pretty low if we leave the cover crops.
