Subject: RE: RTK Float

East Central, Nebraska
xfill and float are not similar terms or services. float isnt a service at all.

i would consider float more of a correction level that isn't quite rtk where xfill is a service trimble uses when rtk is lost. trimble may activate xfill when 'float' occurs but they are not really comparable terms in my experience. xfill (trimble) or extend (deere) are backup satellite services that kick in when full rtk fix is lost.

i found this definition of float, i believe it explains it much better than i could:

Float RTK In a float solution, the algorithm does not yield an acceptable fixed solution, so the ambiguity is allowed to be a decimal or floating point number. According to Tripod Data Systems, a float solution typically generates precise coordinates to between 4 and 18 inches over a known distance between two points of just over half a mile.
