I second jedeka's suggestion. I did my shop that way three years ago & don't have a crack in the floor. Make sure you use re-bar chairs to keep the concrete up off the ground. I've seen it done to many times where the contractor says he will lift the re-bar has they pour. I guarantee they won't do it has good has chairs do. What they cost is minimal compared to weaker concrete. I'd make them pull some sand out to get your desired depth. You only get one shot at it. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck.
