Saranac, Michigan | Saw your question and wanted to weigh in with some info. We have been using RTK for nearly ten years on farm drainage plows and trenchers as well as highway construction. The accuracy is very much like a laser and is not affected by wind or fog. On the highway work, it is checked at least every 50 ft. and compared to stakes. The grade must be within +/- .02ft.
We have systems running in the Midwest, Ontario and the Red River Valley. Generally they are doing subsurface or surface drainage, with grades as little as .01'ft per 100ft. The same system is used to control dozers, graders and scrapers on leveling as well. We have used Deere(ITC),Trimble, Beeline, Sokkia(Novatel) and also have hybrid systems using DGPSwith lasers. We can build vertical curves that allow the user to set minimum and maximum grades and then do a best fit.
