I was like you on the one Case press wheel until I ran one this year. It has a V in the center that puts a v-groove in the soil. When my ground got hard after a rain the Case planter did a much better job than my Deere's ever did of promoting a crack right over the seed row to easily allow plants to emerge. It changed my mind.
