First thing you need to do is put a fuel pressure gauge between the lift pump and the injection pump, even if you leave it stock. Or you can get a pressure switch and set up a low pressure light. The stock pump is not big enough and is weak and is usually the cause of injection pump failure from what I understand.

Edge makes a good unit for that year. It will turn that lumber wagon into a vette. You may want to consider putting an aftermarket lift pump on. You will also want to put on a pyrometer and boost gauge so you can moniter your engine to make sure you don't burn it up. You will probably have to open up the exhaust to keep your exhaust temps down also.

I have a 97 auto running 50hp over stock and pulling a big load on a warm day I have to watch engine temp. Never got it too hot yet. But close.

If you do turn it up it will make pulling those big loads easy.

Look at some of the diesel truck forums. That is a good place for info.
