Not that much alfalfa around here but I remember as a kid discing some prairie sod that we had moldboard plowed with a tricycle front end JD60 (brother in laws tractor) that was so rough the front wheels were not always on the ground. That was slow going and rough. Being young I don't seem to remember how the seat was but I don't imagine it was smooth riding. I remember wondering if we were going to break the tricycle front end off, but it didn't break.
