The n/a Deere diesels typically have a higher compression ratio than the turbo charged engines. Get your injectors tested, cleaned and set to the high end of the spec for breaking pressure that will help atomize the fuel and make starting much easier. I did this to a 4320 and it starts really well now ( it is lower compression than your 4230 is because it is turboed.) I know of several 4230s that have 4430 turbo added it really makes them peppy and improves efficiency but you should add a pyrometer so you don't melt the pistons if you pull it too hard you can monitor your egts.
