Were going to find out next spring how notill 20" beans work behind 20" corn with Devastators.
From what I've seen in the past from where we ride on the stalks with the combine and the tractor/cart in the fall the stalks that are smashed down into the dirt disappear much faster. By the time we plant beans there is considerably less stalk material left there than where the stalks are left standing from a JD cornhead with Calmer chopper rolls on it.
I will say though that the stalks standing in the beans has never really bothered me at all. What I'm really after is reducing the amount of corn residue left in CoC fields and 2 years down the road on rotated acres when we come back to corn without needing to do more aggressive tillage to the bean stubble.
The other big reason for wanting the Devastators was to save tire wear on everything that goes through the field behind the corn head.
