Leaf cutter bees are good pollinators for alfalfa. They will look for holes any where like drain cocks on your engines. The eggs are punched out of the frames, and here they are kept under cool storage till next year when the alfalfa is about to bloom.
In this area they buy gallons of the eggs casts from Canada because the have a vigor these down here don't have.
I didn't know they were attracted to blue-the seed growers used to make their own shelters and they painted them different so the 'bees could find the right shelter.
There is quite a bit of seed grown here, but I haven't done any myself
