S.E. Sask. | mk2angus - 10/1/2021 08:03 I have been straight cutting my oats the last few years cuz I got lazy, and basically I find the oats gets old and yucky by the time it gets ready. I also think that a lot of the heavy seed falls off before the quotes are ready to go when you straight cut it. Of course I'm probably going to get trashed for saying something like that on this site because I have no proof but that's what I think. Just can't beat those clean fresh oats. I agree that a lot of oats shell out in the wind while standing waiting to be ready to straight cut. Seen it happen right here in my own crops. Some varieties might be worse than others but generally they come out pretty nice ripened in the swath. Of course a heavy rain on those swaths can also cause major sprouting problems too so there is no easy answer. |
