At what point do you receive this error?
Does it also say "invalid password" or ANYTHING else that might help narrow down the possibilities.
One thing to try that's coming to mind:
If you are restoring quicken backup from a CD or any kind of thumb drive or ANYTHING externally located from the computer ... rather than attempting to open it from the disk or thumb drive or whatever ... copy the quicken data file to a new folder on your hard drive. (Name it something like Quicken or Quicken Data ... ultimately, something descriptive).
Now, once the file is copied to this folder on your c drive, open quicken and point it to restore from the file in the new folder you just created.
