COdrylander and Hagny are correct. The wheat straw in the old windrow is trying to decompose. The bacteria that do the decomposing require nitrogen and will consume it faster than your corn does. The good news is that this nitrogen will most likely me mineralized later in the season and become available. The bad news is that the mineralization will occur weeks to months later and by then you will have lost yield by having a nitrogen deficient crop in those rows.
