Northern Minnesota | archie, do you recall when those calves got the Bar Vac 7 vaccine? And how many doses they got? It sure sounds like a clostridial type death: healthy well doing cattle found dead. And if they only got one shot, or it has been a while, their immunity may have not been good enough to protect them.
Also, do you have liver flukes in your area? (There is a clostridial that teams up with liver flukes and that particular clostridium (haemolyticum) is not in the Bar Vac 7......)
May want to booster the remaining ones again. Sure hope you don't loose anymore.
