NW Illinois | I would like to say that tar spot is the big yield killer this year, but wind damage comes in at number one, followed by tar spot, and the third problem is rainfall getting shut off. Two years in a row for wind damage, green snap, pinched stalks, and lodged stalks. As I walked my fields checking the wind damage, tar spot seemed to be everywhere! Record yield, no, record one way trips with the combine, yes for my fields. Fungicide was applied on the corn. Did it help, I hope so but definitely doesn't keep tar spot out of the fields. Prior to the August 11th wind damage, corn looked very good, but mother nature wins again. Location is North Western Illinois.
