Middlesex County, Ontario | I think we have pretty similar climates and crop rotations and I think disease pressure will be a major issue. There are some things you can do to mitigate decease pressure below.
Cut the crop as short as possible and bale it to remove as much fungus/bacteria harbouring residue as possible.
Spray a few weeks after harvest to eliminate any volunteer plants from carrying any disease to planting time. It would be best to get rid of that perennial flush right after harvest too. Might take two applications because those perennials will be tough by the time the volunteer comes up.
Plan on fungicides more than once in the following crop. Hopefully you used fungicides (at least at heading) in the preceding crop.
Definitely no cover crops. Maybe a light tillage pass to loosen and dry out root residue. Hope it stays very dry.
Personally I would try my best to avoid growing wheat on wheat. |
