North Central Texas
On used pipe, there is a big difference between tubing and pipe. You can find lots of upset and flow. That's what most here use to build a fence. It's 2 3/8 or 2 7/8 and usually junk. It is not drill stem but tubing. Drill stem comes out of service and will be marked with a red band. The red band means it is 80% of what the wall should be. It started out thick and the red is nothing to worry about. Should be close to 3/8 thick. I use casing pipe for uprights. It will be collared and in 40ft joints. 4" (4.5) uprights with true small diameter drill stem for horizontals and kickers. Sheffield or ok wire t posts after that. Stay away from the tubing side of oilfield unless you are near low corrosion areas.
