I would try it. Nothing tried, nothing learned.

You don't have to do all your acres.  This year, do some acres with oats....do some acres with wheat....do some acres with rye.  Compare them.  See which one works best for you.

Some are suggesting planting rye later, so you don't get so much fall growth.  What I don't like about that idea is that you don't have as much growth for erosion control.  Maybe if you are "flat" that is not a concern. Where I live, I want to see enough growth to give some erosion control going into winter.
