Subject: windows cannot start missing or corrupt

East central Iowa

I received a  computer that had this message.  Just for fun I tried F8 and restore to a known place, it worked.  I rebooted a number of times and it always rebooted.  I put on a number of free anti-virus programs and a number of free malware programs.  I believe that the computer is now clean.  In addition I stopped a lot of junk from loading at startup.

However after leaving it set overnight it wouldn't boot.  I did the F8 start and restore to know good etc. and it's been working fine.  I'm concerned about sending the computer back to the people.  If it does this again they won't be able to make F8 work,  honest I know from experience.  On the other hand they shouldn't have to make it work.

Any suggestions.  They have a ton of what I consider junk software on the computer so I not only don't want to do a complete re-install but probably can't.  I've run disk diagnostics and run defrag on the thing.  Everything seems fine.
