Central Alberta | It distresses me a little that rural people are often associated with the ignorance and paranoia around the pandemic. The papers here run stories about anti-maskers which are often accompanied by pictures of people in Stetson hats. We have always known the value of vaccinations, and we haven't been slow to adopt new technology either.
The last big protest was the anti-seatbelt movement, and before that there was a lot of fearmongering about microwave ovens. Going back farther, people were afraid of electricity and thought it would cause all sorts of bad things to happen. All of that paranoia was based on ignorance and it has all faded away, as this one will. | |
