Are you sure you used pins 10 & 11?
Some cheapo printer cables had some of the pins shorted internally and such a situation could have consequences like you are seeing. If you don't know how to use a continuity tester to see if any of the pins are hooked together, it may be best to hire someone to do this for you.
Yes I am pin 10 and 11 have continuity between them only when switch is pushed.
